안동 임청각
Imcheonggak, Andong
임청각 (보물 제182호)
임청각은 1519년 이명이 지은 집으로, 대한민국 임시정부 초대 국무령을 지낸 석주 이상룡 선생의 생가입니다. 안동 지역 독립운동의 상징적 장소로, 일제강점기 중앙선 철도가 앞마당을 가로질러 큰 훼손을 겪은 바 있습니다.
독립운동의 산실
임청각은 석주 이상룡 선생을 비롯해 그의 아내, 아들 이준형과 며느리, 손자 이병화와 손부, 두 동생과 조카 등 총 11명의 독립운동가를 배출한 한국 독립운동의 산실입니다.
일제가 강제 병합한 경술국치 이듬해인 1911년 1월, 석주 선생은 많은 재산을 처분해 온 가족과 함께 만주로 망명하여 경학사와 신흥무관학교를 세우고 수많은 독립군을 길러냈습니다. 이후 부민단, 한족회(군정부), 서로군정서의 최고지도자로 활동하며 독립운동을 이끌었고, 1925년 대한민국 임시정부 초대 국무령으로 취임하였습니다.
만주로 떠나기 전 그는 “공자와 맹자는 시렁 위에 얹어두고 나라를 되찾은 뒤 읽어도 늦지 않다”는 말을 남기며 독립운동에 헌신했고, 독립 이전에는 결코 귀국하지 않겠다는 각오를 다졌습니다.
현재의 임청각
온 가족과 전 재산을 바쳐 독립운동에 헌신한 석주 이상룡 선생의 생가인 임청각은 현재 중앙선 철길 철거와 복원 공사가 진행 중이며, 앞으로는 구국운동의 교육장으로 활용될 예정입니다.
Imcheonggak in Andong, where the festival takes place, was built in 1515 by Yi Myeong, the son of Yi Jeung of the Goseong Yi clan. It is also the birthplace of Yi Sang-ryong, the first Prime Minister of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea. As a symbolic site of the independence movement in the Andong region, Imcheonggak suffered severe damage when the Jungang Railway Line was constructed across its front yard during the late Japanese colonial period.
It served as a cradle of the independence movement, producing eleven independence activists over three generations, including Seokju Yi Sang-ryong, his son, and his grandson.

고택 아트 페스타는 2022년 첫 개최 이후, 전통 공간을 단순한 전시 배경이 아닌 메시지로 전해왔습니다. 올해는 회화, 조각, 공예, 사진 등 다양한 장르의 작가들이 참여하여 공간과 작품의 맥락을 확장합니다. 특히 뉴욕한인예술인연합(KANA) 소속 작가와 캐나다 작가가 함께하며 국제 교류의 폭을 넓히고, 고택에서 세계와 소통하는 새로운 가능성을 선보입니다.
Since its inception in 2022, the Gotaek Art Festa has embraced traditional spaces not merely as settings, but as messages in their own right. This year, artists from diverse fields—including painting, sculpture, craft, and photography—extend the dialogue between space and artwork. With the participation of members of the Korean Association of New York Artists (KANA) and artists from Canada, the Festa further expands its scope of international exchange, presenting new possibilities for global dialogue within the historic hanok.

참여자는 작가에게 직접 질문하고 의견을 교환하며, 예술을 둘러싼 다양한 관점과 경험을 공유하게 됩니다. 이를 통해 작품에 대한 이해가 깊어질 뿐 아니라, 예술과 관람객이 연결되는 살아 있는 대화의 장을 경험할 수 있습니다.
Artist Talk is a program where participating artists engage directly with the audience, sharing insights into their works and creative processes.
It goes beyond simple explanations, offering a chance to hear the artist’s philosophy and personal perspectives in their own voice.
Audiences are invited to ask questions, exchange ideas, and experience a living dialogue that connects art and people, deepening their understanding of the works on display.

아티스트 캠프는 단순한 워크숍이 아니라, 작가의 창작 역량을 확장하고 동시대 예술의 흐름을 함께 고민하는 플랫폼입니다.
참여자는 서로의 경험과 아이디어를 나누며 새로운 협업의 가능성을 모색하고, 지역과 국제 예술 생태계를 연결하는 지속 가능한 네트워크를 만들어갑니다.
Artist Camp provides a platform for dialogue between emerging artists and cultural professionals across different generations.
Through in-depth discussions on artworks, expert lectures, and practical networking sessions among artists, the program offers a unique opportunity for intensive immersion and exchange.
More than a simple workshop, Artist Camp serves as a platform to expand artistic capacity and reflect on the currents of contemporary art.

[임청각의 밤, “시간을 걷는 예술가들”]
역사와 예술이 어우러지는 특별한 밤, 임청각에서 열리는 고택 특화 프로그램입니다.
임청각에서 이루어지는 실경 역사극, 뮤지컬 "서간도 바람소리"의 간소화 버전 공연을 비롯해, 참여 작가와 공연예술가가 함께 관람객과 어우러지는 시간을 마련합니다.
전통 공간에서 펼쳐지는 공연과 교류는 관람객에게 예술과 역사가 공존하는 특별한 경험을 선사합니다.

A special evening program where history and art come together at Imcheonggak.
The event features a condensed version of the musical “The Sound of Wind from Seogando”, along with moments where participating artists and performing artists mingle with the audience.
Set within a heritage space, this program offers visitors a unique experience of coexistence between art and history.
