International Open Call

Overview

  • Field:   Visual arts, including painting, drawing, photography, installation, and video

Purpose

  • This open call aims to provide international artists with an opportunity for creative work and research based in Korea.

  • The program values not only artistic production, but also sustained residence, local observation, exchange, and relationship-building.

  • Works developed during the residency will be presented later in exhibitions in Seoul and Jeonju.

Eligibility

  • International artists or artists based outside Korea

  • Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree or higher in an arts-related field, or possess equivalent professional artistic experience.

  • Be able to communicate in either English or Korean. ( The primary working languages of the residency are Korean and English, and professional interpretation will not be provided.)

  • Applicants must be able to stay in Korea for at least 50 consecutive days during the residency period. (The residency will take place between July and September 2026, and the exact dates will be finalized in consultation with the organizer.)

  • Applicants must be available to participate in artistic production, networking, and public residency programs during the stay.

  • Applicants must be comfortable with shared living arrangements. Accommodation may be shared by one or two residents depending on the residency schedule.

  • Applicants must be able to independently check and prepare for entry and stay requirements in Korea.

  • 50% round-trip airfare support (one round-trip ticket / economy class only / excludes extra baggage, seat selection, and upgrades / airfare will be purchased directly by the organizer)

  • Material support through domestic purchase in Korea (materials will be purchased directly by the organizer / no cash reimbursement / overseas purchasing is not available)

  • Opportunities to participate in networking and public residency programs

  • Cash-based creative grants, artist fees, or direct payment to a personal account

Responsibilities of the Selected Artist

  • The selected artist must stay in residence for at least 50 consecutive days between July and September 2026.

  • The selected artist must produce and submit at least one new artwork with at least one side measuring 100 cm or more during the residency.

  • The submitted work will be presented in the residency outcome exhibitions: November 2026 in Seoul / December 2026 in Jeonju.

  • The selected artist must participate in networking with Korean resident artists.

  • The selected artist must participate in public residency programs.

  • The selected artist must follow the residency schedule and operational guidelines provided by the organizer.

Insurance and
Stay Requirements

  • The selected artist must obtain personal travel insurance or accident/medical insurance covering the full residency period.

  • The insurance should cover illness, injury, emergency medical treatment, and other basic risks during the stay.

  • Insurance costs are the responsibility of the selected artist.

  • Proof of insurance must be submitted before the residency begins.

  • This residency is planned on the basis of a short-term non-commercial stay.

  • Each applicant is responsible for checking their own eligibility for entry and stay in Korea according to their nationality and individual circumstances.

  • Activities that generate personal income in Korea may require separate review.

  • Portfolio (PDF format, maximum 20 pages, up to 20MB) For video-based works, applicants may submit links within the portfolio or separately

  • Work or research proposal for the residency period (1–2 pages), including:  theme, production method, expected outcome, possible exhibition connection

  • Proof of degree or professional experience

  • Copy of passport

  • Any additional documents requested by the organizer

Review and

  • Review Criteria:   artistic quality and direction / relevance to the residency’s purpose / feasibility of the proposed plan / ability to participate in the residency and related programs

  • This open call evaluates not only the quality and direction of the applicant’s work, but also their potential for exchange and program participation during the residency, as well as the feasibility of the proposed plan.

  • Submitted materials will not be returned.

  • Applications with false information or missing documents may be excluded from review.

  • Selection may be cancelled if any submitted information is found to be false, or if the selected artist is unable to fulfill the residency and exhibition requirements.

  • Detailed procedures regarding airfare, accommodation, and material support will be provided after selection.

  • Matters not specified in this announcement will follow the organizer’s internal guidelines.

  • The organizer does not guarantee visa issuance or permission to enter Korea, and applicants are responsible for checking all related requirements themselves.

  • Installation and video-based works are subject to prior consultation depending on spatial and technical conditions.
